We’ve got mail! There's nothing more fulfilling than hearing from students about how our Educational Excellence grants are impacting their classroom experience. The Montclair Fund for Educational Excellence was thrilled to receive these hand-written notes from Watchung Elementary School students telling us how much fun they were having with their “Eggspert Buzzers.”
Last year, MFEE awarded a grant for this project to Watchung teacher Christina Sparacino. The tools allow students to gamify learning and increase engagement across the content areas of Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Through the use of an interactive buzzer system, students actively engage in a classroom game show to reinforce new and previously taught skills/concepts and extend learning with challenge questions. The kids work collaboratively, support and encourage one another, and build positive peer relationships and communication skills.
But don’t take our word for it. This is what the kids wrote:
“The buzzers are an amazing help. We can learn our math facts and our fractions, and with the spinning wheel we can do Wheel of Fortunes!”
“You get to race against the time, use teamwork and cheer classmates on.”
“I am so thankful for you all because without you all, me and my class would not have these buzzers!”
Grants like this are possible because of MFEE's Toast to the Teachers, a long-standing tradition of the Montclair Public Schools. These family-hosted parties are being held now through June 23, 2024. Ticket sales raise critical funds specifically for teacher grants, allowing them to pilot innovative ideas, tools, and experiences for our children. Watch this video to learn more, and see details on how to host or attend a toast.
P.S. Thanks for the letters, kids. With support from our community, MFEE can continue to fuel “egg-cellence” in public education!
