The transition from high school to “real life” has always been daunting – and exciting – for teens. Today’s high school students (and their grown-ups) are preparing to walk into a world full of possibility and opportunity while also grappling with unprecedented levels of stress and anxiety.
MFEE is excited to bring back our award-winning mini-conference, Life After High School, for this new generation of Montclair students. Last time we held this mini-conference, in 2020, we had over 200 teens participate – this year, in early spring 2024, Life After High School will have new topics and more student input, and will provide today's teens with this one-of-a-kind opportunity to connect and learn!
Here's a highlight video from our first conference in 2018.
What is Life After High School?
Life After High School is a one-day mini-conference with conversation and workshops created for Montclair 8th - 12th graders. The workshops are led by local folks and alumni who draw from their own life experiences to provide inspiration, support, and advice to guide teens through this turbulent and exciting time in their lives. Each workshop, co-facilitated by an MHS student, is designed to inspire teens and their caregivers to think about post-high school life broadly and come away feeling a little more connected, optimistic, and confident. Our dynamic leaders address topics like “how to take a risk,” “managing failure,” “learning to network,” and “finding your passion.” Caregivers experience a separate track of workshops that address supporting the social and emotional health of teens...and of the grown-ups who care for them!
What sets Life After High School apart from other youth events?
Life After High School activities and workshops are led by local folks and Montclair alumni who can draw relatable teachings from their own life experiences. Teens help design the event and co-facilitate the workshops. The workshop choices are developed with input from teens, caregivers, teachers, and guidance counselors. Montclair is lucky to have many youth-serving organizations in our community, and MFEE brings them together for their input and expertise.
How can you help?
Life After High School is created for Montclair teens with the input of our community. We want to hear from you – Do you have an idea for a workshop topic? Do you have a Montclairian or local alum that you would like to suggest as a workshop leader? Share your ideas with us.
