Get a glimpse of what life is REALLY like after high school.

For teens and caregivers, thinking about life after high school can feel overwhelming.  And scary.  And exciting. And mysterious.  And perhaps back to exciting. No matter what comes next - college, work, art, exploration, training - teens will be moving from a world they know to one with new challenges and opportunities. And caregivers of teens are shifting their role - and their identity! - from one of “primary-needs fulfiller” to “life coach.”

This conference (a partnership between MFEE and Montclair High School) is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for teens to connect with and learn from folks who are living Life After High School - with successes, with regrets, and - most importantly - with some lessons learned along the way.

How the conference works:

  • Everyone starts the morning together with a key note and light breakfast.

  • Teens then go to two workshops of their choosing, while caregivers meet up at a panel discussion and then attend a workshop they select.

  • Everyone comes back together for a closing.

Helwani has been covering mixed martial arts professionally since 2006. He is the reigning five-time World MMA Award Journalist of the Year winner. Helwani is a graduate of Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

FAQ

Can teens come without their grownups? Can parents/caregivers come without their teens?

Yes and yes!  Teens can come on their own, and we encourage teens to come with a friend or two.  Parents/caregivers (and any adults in the community) are welcome, whether or not their teen wants to come (or gets out of bed that morning...).

Is this just another career or college fair?

No!  This is actually the OPPOSITE of a fair that is designed to help teens decide on "their path."  The goal of these workshops is for teens to find new sources of inspiration, encouragement, and come away reassured that, no matter what Life After High School holds, you can survive and thrive.

Will there be food?

Of course.  There will be a casual breakfast, coffee, and snacks.

Hmmm, I'm still not convinced...

We totally get it - a Saturday morning? At the high school? But, really, this a one-of-a-kind opportunity to meet interesting people who are interested in talking to teens about what's coming next. And, for parents and caregivers, it's an opportunity to connect with other people who are swimming in the same (warm? refreshing? shark-infested?) waters you are, and get usable strategies from amazing coaches and guides.
