This is the lastest in our series, spotlighting the winners of the 2025 Judy Weston Awards for Inspired Teaching. Follow along each week to learn more about the impact these educators are making in the Montclair Public Schools.

What does an English-Language Arts teacher from Glenfield Middle School have in common with a world-famous pop singer?

They both can elicit cheers, shrieks, and tears of joy from middle schoolers.

That’s right. When Charles Anderson – who was out on paternity leave – made a cameo at the Glenfield dance, his students were beyond thrilled to see him. This was reported to the Awards Committee by multiple sources.

As one parent put it: “[Mr. Anderson] surprised the kids by showing up at the school dance, and you would have thought Justin Bieber showed up with the screams and the tears.”

Another parent said: “[The kids] cried when he left! The students absolutely adore him, respect him, look up to him, and learn from him.”

Mr. Anderson, you are a superstar to so many of your students. Parents called your teaching “a bright spot,” and they raved about how you give children confidence in their academic abilities.

One parent put it this way: “As house leader, Mr. Anderson set a tone of trust, fun and educational curiosity from the very beginning. My son would come home beaming daily, sharing stories of the excellent moments that happened during ELA class…. When I first met Mr. Anderson, it was outwardly obvious that he loved teaching. He spoke with passion and excitement about the work he planned for his students. I've seen my child grow into a mature student who really loves to read and discuss books, all from Mr. Anderson's encouragement.”

Charles Anderson – for listening to your students, helping them shine, and igniting in them a passion for learning, you’ve earned your place as a top-of-the-charts inspired teacher. Congratulations.
