It's time to celebrate Sabor Montclair! MFEE asked students at Northeast and Edgemont elementary schools: "What's at your family table?"

Their artwork captures the spirit of this event, highlighting their stories, families, and cultural traditions. Here's what a few students told us about their drawings:

"My mom always makes a lot of food, but people get busy talking, and doing other things, and sometimes they forget to eat. That’s why I drew their plates full."

"I drew my family around my table at the Three Kings Day."

"It is only me and my mom, but her food is so good."

"I drew my dinner table at Hanukkah."

"Taco Tuesday!"

"A food that reminds me of home is chicken ticari with a roti."

"When my family and I go to Nana and Papa's, we always make two-layer ice cream."

"Bratwurst, German strawberry cake, mashed potatoes, red kale. Yum."

"Saffron buns because I am Swedish... Nonnie's homemade spaghetti because I'm Italian."

"On my family dinner I love to eat turkey and string beans and play with my sister."

"This is not a holiday or birthday. We are not celebrating anything. It is just a fun day where we got my favorite foods: Tacos, nachos, pizza, and tamales. That is what makes it special."

"I LOVE FOOD (It makes me feel loved)."

We couldn't agree more.

Student art will be displayed at the schools this month, and we'll be sharing it on our social media and at our event on Saturday, Oct. 25. A huge thank you to these creative students, and all the teachers who helped contribute time and energy to this effort.

Want to take part in this celebration of community, culture and Montclair kids?

Here’s How it Works:

  • Donate and reserve your meal.

  • On Oct. 25, pick up your dinner at your reserved time.

  • Volunteers bring the food to your car, so you don’t need to find parking.

  • Enjoy a meal at home, prepared by some of your Montclair neighbors!

Now in its fifth year, this fundraiser supports MFEE and its work with more than 150 multilingual students who attend Montclair Public Schools. Families who are part of MFEE’s programming helped design this event, which features delicious takeout meals that highlight their culture and traditions. Reserve today, as this event sells out!
