When creative educators like Northeast music teacher Shawn Dey seek resources to excite and engage students – it’s music to our ears!

That’s why the Montclair Fund for Educational Excellence was happy to fund “Boomwhacker” instruments for his music program this year.

Mr. Dey recently used them in his classroom to teach some of Northeast's littlest learners concepts of beat, rhythm, tempo, listening, performance, pitch and ensemble work. These foundational skills learned in Kindergarten will come in handy in the later elementary school years when students at Northeast learn to play the recorder (in 3rd grade) or join the school band (in 4th and 5th grade).

Each year, MFEE provides $60,000 in Educational Excellence grants to educators across our district for tools and experiences to enhance their classrooms. Support this work by making a donation or attending a teacher toast this spring! In fact, Northeast families are celebrating all their teachers and staff with an all-school Toast at Tierney's on June 12.
