Sabor Montclair Returns with a Taste of Montclair’s Diverse Cultures

Sabor Montclair, a delicious fundraiser to support the Montclair Fund for Educational Excellence (MFEE), is back for its sixth year! Join friends and neighbors on Saturday, Oct. 10, for authentic takeout dishes prepared by local chefs that reflect the rich diversity of our town.
This event supports MFEE and its mission to remove barriers to learning and create equitable access for all Montclair Public Schools students. MFEE serves 150 families and nearly 200 MPS students through the Navegadores Escolares program, and provides after-school tutoring for students in grades K - 12 in Oruguitas and Entrenadores Escolares. Families who are a part of MFEE’s programming helped design this event, which highlights their culture and traditions.
How it works:
Donate and reserve your meal.
On Oct. 10, pick up your dinner at your reserved time, between 5 p.m. - 8 p.m., at Union Congregational Church (176 Cooper Ave., Montclair).
Volunteers bring the food to your car, so you don’t need to find parking.
Enjoy a meal at home, prepared by some of your Montclair neighbors!
“Many flavors. One unique sabor beautifully captures the spirit of Montclair. Our community is enriched by the cultures, traditions, languages, and experiences that each family brings,” said MPS Superintendent Ruth B. Turner. “Sabor Montclair not only celebrates the extraordinary talents of the mothers participating in MFEE’s Navegadores Escolares program but also reminds us that food has the power to bring people together and create a deeper sense of belonging. We are grateful for MFEE’s continued partnership and its commitment to supporting our multilingual learners and their families. It is through celebrations like this that we honor our diversity and recognize that our many unique flavors make us stronger together.”
Each takeout dinner includes a tasting platter with dishes from South and Central America:
NEW THIS YEAR! Peruvian Ceviche — fresh seafood marinated in bright lime juice
Tacos de Pernil — slow-roasted, marinated pork with pico de gallo and our famous green salsa
Pupusas de Frijol con Queso — cornmeal griddle cakes with beans and cheese
Gallo Pinto — seasoned beans and rice
Mexican Cinnamon Cookies.
“Sabor Montclair uplifts the cultures, stories, and languages that make our community so vibrant,” said Masiel Rodriquez-Vars, MFEE’s executive director. “It also raises critical funds so that we can empower families and help students thrive.”
Non-English-speaking parents face many barriers in navigating public schools and supporting their children. In addition to bilingual after-school tutoring programs for elementary students and teens, MFEE provides summer enrichment camps, a mother’s empowerment group, and holistically supports families to address health, food, employment, and education needs.
Last year’s event sold out – almost 300 meals! So don’t miss the chance to taste delicious, authentic food prepared by local chefs from Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Peru. Reserve at https://givebutter.com/sabormontclair2026.
